Materials Management

Overview

The Materials Management feature in MAESTRE allows you to organize, store, and share educational resources with your students. This centralized repository makes it easy to maintain your teaching materials and associate them with specific classrooms and tags for better organization.

Accessing Materials

To access the Materials section:

  1. Log in to your MAESTRE account
  2. Click on the "Materials" option in the sidebar navigation
  3. The Materials dashboard will display all your uploaded resources

Creating and Uploading Materials

Adding a New Material

To add a new educational material to your repository:

  1. Click the "+ Create Material" button at the top of the Materials page
  2. In the modal that appears, select the classroom where you want to add the material
  3. Upload your file using one of these methods:
    • Drag and drop the file into the designated area
    • Click "Browse Files" to select from your computer
  4. The file name will be automatically filled in, but you can edit it if needed
  5. Click "Create Material" to complete the upload

Note: The maximum file size allowed is 50MB. Supported file formats include PDF, DOC, DOCX, PPT, PPTX, TXT, PNG, and JPG.

Organizing Materials with Tags

Tags help you categorize and filter your materials for easier access.

Creating Tags

To create a new tag:

  1. Click on the "Create Tag" button in the Materials page
  2. Enter a name for your tag (maximum 50 characters)
  3. Select a color for visual identification from the color palette
  4. Click "Create" to add the tag to your collection

Assigning Tags to Materials

To assign tags to a material:

  1. Locate the material in your list
  2. Click the "Edit Tags" button (tag icon)
  3. In the modal that appears, select the tags you want to assign
  4. Click "Update Tags" to save your changes

Filtering and Searching Materials

Searching by Name

Use the search bar at the top of the Materials page to quickly find materials by name:

  1. Type your search query in the search field
  2. Results will update automatically as you type

Filtering by Tags

To filter materials by tags:

  1. Click on a tag in the tags section to select it
  2. The materials list will update to show only materials with the selected tag(s)
  3. Click on a selected tag again to deselect it

Filtering by Classroom

To filter materials by classroom:

  1. Click on a classroom in the classrooms section
  2. The materials list will update to show only materials associated with the selected classroom
  3. Click on the selected classroom again to deselect it

Managing Your Materials

Editing Material Details

To edit a material's name:

  1. Find the material you want to edit in the list
  2. Click the "Edit" button (pencil icon)
  3. Enter the new name in the modal that appears
  4. Click "Update" to save your changes

Downloading Materials

To download a material:

  1. Locate the material in your list
  2. Click the "Download" button (download icon)
  3. The file will be downloaded to your device

Deleting Materials

To delete a single material:

  1. Find the material you want to delete
  2. Click the "Delete" button (trash icon)
  3. Confirm the deletion in the modal that appears

To delete multiple materials at once:

  1. Select the materials you want to delete by clicking the checkbox next to each one
  2. Click the "Delete Selected" button that appears at the top of the list
  3. Confirm the deletion in the modal that appears

Best Practices

  • Consistent Naming: Use a consistent naming convention for your materials to make them easier to find
  • Effective Tagging: Create a thoughtful tagging system that helps you quickly filter and find materials
  • Regular Cleanup: Periodically review and remove outdated materials to keep your repository organized
  • Classroom Association: Always associate materials with the appropriate classroom for better organization

Troubleshooting

Common Issues

  • Upload Failures: If a file fails to upload, check that it's under the 50MB size limit and in a supported format
  • Missing Materials: If you can't find a material, try clearing all filters and using the search function
  • Tag Management: If you have too many tags, consider consolidating similar tags to maintain organization
